There are several methods of advertising on the Internet. Some are free, some are low cost, while others are insanely expensive. The first thing you will need to look at is how much you are willing to pay for traffic, and how far your advertising dollar can go.
Let's say you have got a great idea, and your website is now complete. You are ready to open for business but where are your customers? Simple - you are going to have to go out and get them. It sounds easy, but advertising can be a pitfall that can cripple many e-businesses.

Screw up your META Tags and get 20 Years in Prison!
That's right! You read that right! If you misuse your Meta tags you could get up to 20 years in prison for it according to the 'Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act'. With this law it is an offense for any website to use Meta tags in a way that misleads children by tricking them into 'viewing material constituting obscenity.' The penalty doubles to 20 years if you intentionally use the Meta tags to deceive children.

Until recently, the vast amount of news and other information available on the World Wide Web was accessible only by manually browsing for specific content via search engines. RSS (Really Simple Syndication) represents an information revolution that turns this concept around by actively syndicating content on an ever growing number of websites. RSS content is transmitted over the Web via 'feeds' covering an extensive range of topics and interests, from general news coverage to breaking bulletins in sports, business, science, politics, the arts, and countless other fields. Users subscribe to the RSS feeds available from an increasing number of websites and receive frequent updates in their selected fields of interest via an 'RSS reader' or 'aggregator' that continuously gathers news from RSS-capable sites and translates it into text and links for review on-demand.

Marketing your business should be a consistent priority daily. The importance of spreading the word about your product or service can be the difference between success and failure. As a home-based or small business owner, you will wear many hats. This will include worker, manager, janitor, receptionist, order taker and a host of other duties.
Sometimes, we can get so caught up in being the worker for the business that we forget we also have to be the visionary and the planner - the role that gives the business guidance and ensures its longevity.

The old adage, "keep your friends close, and your enemies closer", is applicable not only to personal relationships but business relationships as well. While I'm not suggesting that you befriend your competitors, it is important that you are cognizant of your competitors' business ventures and methods.
It is important to realize that while monitoring your competitors is essential, it could easily become an obsession. Therefore, it is crucial that you strike a balance when incorporating it into your business plan. There are several ways to conduct successful stealth competitive intelligence operations. While it is fanciful to imagine yourself as a secret agent or spy, none of these techniques are difficult, hidden or secretive. In fact, most of them are tools or services available to all businesses.
