Advertising is only a part of the bigger game called Marketing. Marketing encompasses complete conceptualization of a brand, right from research to designing to advertising to sale. Advertising, on the other hand is a component of the marketing process which is nothing but conveying the message through a variety of mediums which promote the product.

Pay per click marketing can be a good addition to organic search engine optimization. However, if you do it wrong, pay per click will cost you a fortune without bringing results. If you do it right, AdWords ads will help you to make money.

I've heard it time and again, "Paying for online marketing is killing my business." Many of the small businesses I consult with, and even some of the larger ones continually complain about the cost of online marketing and advertising, especially when it comes to pay per click advertising.

Rashard who is currently visiting Frankfurt asks: What should I do when I am fresh out of ideas to blog about? Thanks for the question Rashard and before I start I'd like to mention that before writing a post it's always good to to assess the value of your post to your readers. Will your post help them in any way?

Link Exchanging is the process of exchanging text links between websites. Webmasters exchange links to improve traffic through numerous inbound links or link popularity. Exchanging links is normally a free process (unless you choose a fee-based link exchange program), making link exchanges cost effective. Another benefit of using a link exchange program is that it helps improve search engine result placements.

Not all web marketing needs to cost money. Aside from website submissions, there are a number of things that web marketers can do that are free, though they may be rather time-consuming. Other marketing tactics are relatively inexpensive, and are often well worth the investment.
Follow these basic steps to market your website and business.

A strange thing started happening to me in the last 2 years or so. As I became more vocal about my opinion, people started seeking it out more often. The more I shared it, the more people nodded their heads. And the more obnoxious I got about it, the more people jumped on my own little opinion bandwagon. It you look at comments to this column as an indicator of striking chords, it seems like I touch cords either when I'm being a total dickhead (increasingly frequent) or introspective and emotionally deep (a much rarer occurrence). But other than a 'right on' post or comment, and the vigorous nodding of heads, I'm not sure it will go much further than that. Inside, we all like to be smarter than our bosses and a little bit revolutionary. But on the surface, where we live and work, we go with the flow. I call it the Cluetrain Conundrum.

Erica in Washington asked a great question about SEO with regards to the hosting of a site. This was actually a tough one to answer because really there is no concreate answer from the search engines on this topic.
This is one of those questions that we are often asked (as to how hosting in one country while trying to rank in another affects rankings in the search engines) that has proven difficult to answer. For example, let's say your website is hosted in Canada, yet you want to target the United States. Does the fact that your site is hosted in a different country affect your rankings?
The answer is yes. At least right now this is how it works with the engines.

Small business owners are often limited by small marketing budgets and manpower. But that doesn't mean they can't compete against larger businesses or websites when focused on search engine optimization. SEO is a basic marketing tool that everyone should use regardless of size.
