Some S.E.O.'s will tell you that reciprocal linking is beneficial. Others will say that reciprocal linking has outlived its course. If you choose to trade links, here are a few things to consider.
The point of obtaining back-links is to help your search engine rank. Every link to your site is like a vote for your site. If it's a one way link, from them to you, even better! The quality of the back-link is also important. If a high ranked site like Microsoft were to link to your site, it would be considered a very important "vote," and would surely outweigh back-links from many other sites. But what if your back-link isn't real? There are website owners and directories out there who are willing and eager to trade links with you. But beware, because what they're really trying to do is create a one way link; from your site to theirs!

Question - If I need to target a specific region, is it helpful to have a domain from that country?
Answer - Yes. Both hosting location and domain extension matter and can influence search engine ranking in regional search engines. If you are attempting to target a specific country, you could very well benefit from purchasing a domain with that countries extension and hosting the website on a server that is located in that country. The larger country specific search engines, generally rank local domains higher in the search results.

Just a few short years ago, there was a web page description tag called the Meta Keywords tag. It quickly became popular with unscrupulous web masters incorrectly applying keywords in an effort to rank better in the search engines. Google, and many top search engines ended up discounting, and ultimately ignoring keywords. It is still important to include this in your page, but for different reasons.
Increasingly, search engines have been placing more importance on a websites 'connectivity' to other websites to determine how important, or relevant, your site is. This connectivity is done through linking. A link is like vote of confidence (in the eyes of the search engine) that says, "This site counts." The more links you have coming into your site means the more 'votes of confidence' that your site is worth a visit. Majority rules, democracy in action!

Before you part with your cold hard cash, consider various ways to increase and maximize your conversions. The term conversion simply represents the number of website visitors that take the action that the web publisher desires. In most cases, conversion refers to an individual browsing a website and purchasing the product(s) or service(s) being sold. The idea is that a browser has been converted into a buyer.
What if you could increase the number of people that visit your site to customers who purchase or take action on your site by 1 percent. What would a 1 percent increase in conversion mean to your bottom line? Even on low ticket items, a 1 percent increase in conversions can be potentially staggering when considered over time.

So I'm watching the program, Gene Simmons Family Jewels, last week and in the episode, Gene is trying to help his son Nick come up with a name for his band and he's like "... how about Engine... as in Search Engine?" I totally cracked up. Even Gene Simmons is on board with Search. Hmm, what a concept, Gene Simmons and search... I really shouldn't be surprised as there is actually a connection between Gene Simmons, Kiss and marketing. Love them or hate them, the band Kiss has been a successful marketing machine since the mid-seventies. These guys have marketed everything from Kiss toys and comic books to Kiss coffins and more recently even a Kiss coffee house. Gene Simmons is really quite a savvy businessman. He knows how to sell and market himself and his band. So what does Gene Simmons have to do with search engine marketing? Well maybe not much but it did remind me of the K.I.S.S. acronym. (That is "Keep It Simple Stupid").

Many webmasters focus on getting more traffic to their web sites. While getting visitors is very important, it is much more important to increase the conversion rate of your web site.
This article will tell you why improving your conversion rate will have a much higher effect on your web site than getting more traffic.
The conversion rate of your web site is the ratio of sales to visitors to your web site. If your web site gets 30,000 visitors per month and 300 of these visitors purchase something from your web site then your conversion rate is 1/100 or 1%.

Google Talk started out as a simple tool exactly one year ago today, with your basic IM functions including both voice and text chat. It was having a slow build into the mass market, but there really hasn't been any reason why someone should stop using their MSN or Yahoo! messengers outside of the clean interface and Apple iChat style bubbles. More recently, Google Talk added features that make it more appealing to the demanding IM public, including file transfer, song title display, and the piece de resistance - which no other IM tool has perfected - voicemail. Now they're talking! (pardon the pun) It appeared as if Google had its sights set more on the VOIP market than the chat market, targeting services at the level of Skype and its EBay partnership. What does all this mean? I've adopted Google Talk more readily, not necessarily as my main chat, but it has a place in my taskbar now.

When you begin the task of acquiring quality and relevant backlinks to your website there are many factors that can increase or decrease your search engine rankings. This article outlines the difference between good and bad backlinks.
A quality backlink pointing to your site should be in the same category and relevant in content to your website. The page where your link is located should be indexed by Google and the page should also have a Google page rank. The webpage where your link is located should also contain no more than 30 other out-going links to other websites. Link pages with more than 30 out-going links are less relevant to the search engines. Having your link posted on this type of webpage can affect your search engine rankings in a negative way. Other excellent techniques of acquiring backlinks are directory submissions, posting articles, blogs and forums.

You are probably wondering what the blazes is popular about a link. Well, in a word - plenty. Link popularity refers to the ranking assigned to your website by the search engines, and it determines the ranking your page gets when keywords are entered into a search engine. So, you are probably wondering, how do I make my link popular?
Search engines are discretionary, giving status and ranking to sites that have links to their pages from related, quality sites. It's a simple formula, but a very important one. Google created the system, and now virtually all the most popular search engines employ it to rank your web pages in their indexes.
