In response to an article published by Mashable, Long Island advertising firm fishbat reveals how Google is improving search engine optimization, and cutting down on problematic search links.

fishbat, an award winning Long Island advertising firm, discusses how Google is penalizing websites in search results if there are problematic links or the website is participating in “black hat” SEO tactics.

According to a January 24th article from Mashable titled “Google sends Expedia packing in search rankings,” Google has basically blacklisted Expedia and decreased its ranking due to the fact that many of Expedia’s links were problematic.

The article says Expedia’s search ranking has dropped 25 percent in the last few days. The article says Expedia has been known in the past to try to artificially increase their search results by posting these links on other websites or travel blogs.

In the last couple of years, the article says Google has been trying to revise its search engine results to increase the ranking of websites that contain high quality content. Google also has increased has also made an effort to heavily penalize websites and companies using these unnatural linking strategies to elevate rankings. The article says Google's efforts should help websites with high quality content increase their search results.

Justin Maas, vice president of client relations at the Long Island advertising firm fishbat explains how Google’s action against Expedia will pave the way for a new era of search engine optimization. “By cutting down on websites posting unnatural links, it allows the websites with higher quality content to elevate their rank in the search results,” he says. “Websites will have to focus on creating high quality content that people actually want to read and share. This will help stimulate organic search, giving consumers more accurate results when they enter search terms for a certain topic.”

Maas says many websites participate in “black hat” SEO tactics. “Sometimes companies buy links and put out a high volume of low quality content,” he says. “This is what we call ‘black hat’ tactics. Google has improved its efficiency in tracking down these sites and in penalizing them so it can reward sites with higher quality content.
