Through MoveDigital's High Speed Online Delivery Service, Neokast will Deliver HD Streaming in Real-Time to Every Broadband Connection

CHICAGO, IL -- Neokast LLC, which streams live broadcasts and on-demand content over the Internet via advanced P2P protocols, has formed a partnership with MoveDigital, Inc., an online digital delivery service, to provide intelligent high-quality P2P video streaming to the masses. By leveraging the power of MoveDigital's Volumetric Network Access Technology, Neokast will offer high-def quality streaming at a cost that is dramatically lower than typical CDNs, or even grid-networks. The two companies expect the collaboration to open the door to record-breaking levels of simultaneous viewers of high quality streaming video over the Internet.
On March 15th, 2007 Mark Smith, President of MoveDigital was introduced to Neokast through an interview by Bob Cringely of the two Neokast co-founders, Adam Johnson and Stefan Birrer. The interview was posted on the Technology Evangelist website by Benjamin Higginbotham, an avid and well respected high-def streaming guru. Higginbotham stated, "I think MoveDigital's HD distribution network is a natural fit for Neokast. Neokast is a technology that can change television as we know it. I believe MoveDigital will help enable Neokast to deliver their content to millions of consumers quickly and seamlessly."

MoveDigital and Neokast collided last week at Pulvermedia's Video on the Net conference in San Jose. The two companies immediately understood the benefits of collaboration. Cringely also sees the possibilities, "Neokast has the potential to change forever how television is carried on the Internet, but its greatest challenge in dealing with large scale content providers will be in going from second to third gears. MoveDigital servers can add that extra nudge needed to ensure than an HBO or an NBC's HD content is available seamlessly -- and fluidly -- over the net. It's a good combination."

MoveDigital, founded in 1999, refined its expertise in infrastructure and file delivery by providing on-demand services for CNET's GameSpot, CNET's Download.com, Live365.com, Digital River and GameSpy's FilePlanet. MoveDigital currently provides acceleration of BitTorrent downloads via a patent pending technology called P2P Smartseed. Invented by Gary Lerhaupt, the feature allows publishers to control when MoveDigital contributes torrent download acceleration based on how many seeds are currently in the mix. MoveDigital plans to work with Neokast to provide a similar service to their peer-to-peer network. As Neokast delivers higher quality files with larger bit rates, the MoveDigital network will come in to make sure users have a high quality experience. MoveDigital will explore the use of their existing patent on volumetric network access to enable Neokast to compensate peers for their contribution to the network.

The collaboration evolved from a few friendly conversations with Frank Huebbers, Lead Web Engineer at Neokast, and Noah Clemons, Neokast's Chief Information Architect. Clemons really broke the ice when he came to the MoveDigital booth and said, "MoveDigital is very cool. These days I will only watch high-def." Over the next day Smith met Neokast's CFO Jim Johnson, Neokast's CTO Andreas Schuler, and Stefan Birrer Neokast's Chief Software Architect and co-founder. At the VON show's conclusion Smith met with Adam Johnson, Neokast's President and co-founder, over a meal at Gordon Biersch in downtown San Jose among the loud din of the fans watching the NCAA Road to the Final Four. "Despite the noise and the fatigue of three days at a trade show, we came to terms on how we could work together and had the Neokast software up and running on MoveDigital servers by 2am," Smith explained.

Both Neokast and MoveDigital company philosophies intersect around the belief that everyone should have equal access to mass communication. Keeping the costs down helps advance the development of emerging production genres and eliminates the era of the mass media gatekeeper.
