If you haven't visited Microsoft's research site lately you might want to take a look. Aside from the fact that they've recently changed it a little, you may want to browse the current list of projects they are working on. I did, and here are a few that caught my eye:

Once I had my site designed, the next step was to find a reliable hosting company. This will take some research on your part as any hosting company will not do. There are many issues that will be covered below.

The price range for a hosting package can be anywhere from just a couple dollars per month to $200 or more on a monthly basis. You will have to decide on what you are looking for, whether it be virtual hosting or a dedicated server. A dedicated server will end up costing you more money. Taking into consideration the budget you have for hosting and the options available, you will want to find a hosting company that has little down time.

You probably know Google's link command. It's a special search query that allows you to find web sites that link to another web site.

For example, if you want to find web pages that link to Microsoft.com, enter "link:www.microsoft.com" in Google's search box.

In a somewhat surprising shift in online usage, a recent study by the Pew Internet and American Life Project and comScore Networks, search engines usage accounts for the second most performed online activity.

While email reigns as the most common online activity, 84% of the almost 1400 Americans surveyed said they use a search engine, while more than half use them at least daily. Approximately 64 million Americans are online each day.

It is notable, however, that when there is an important news item, or late breaking news, news sites become the second most popular activity.

Localized search engine optimization is often overlooked as an excellent tool to bring in local traffic to your website. By including local information in your tags and web pages, you help prospective customers find specific information on the area and business they are searching for.

What Is Localized Search Engine Optimization?

Localized search engine optimization is the addition of local search terms to your tags and web pages. For example, if you work in Sonoma County, California and are targeting local or state visitors, be sure to include "Sonoma County" and "California" in your tags and in the text on your page. This way when searchers look for services in Sonoma County, California in the search engines, your website will have a better chance of showing up in the search engine results.

So you have your site template designed, its great looking and has a search engine friendly design. The two main questions you may have now are, one, how much content will I need, and two, how many pages?

First of all, your content will have to be relevant and contain useable information for your viewers. You do not want to create doorway pages for your site. You want to have good quality pages, give the users the information that they want. If they do not find the information on your site, they will go back to the results and go to the next listing. This is what we want to avoid!

A Cost Effective Way to Advertise Online. . . A Permission E-Mail Marketing

We all hate e-mail spam, right? I even have the coolest software program that will help you combat spam and actually bounces the spam e-mail straight back to the user. (http://www.mailwasher.net)

However, one thing that we often fail to admit (except in private) is the importance of permission e-mail marketing, where the members of your mailing list have given you permission to contact them, or where they're past customers of yours. Obviously, these e-mail lists are always opt-out, so if someone chooses not to continue receiving information from you, they can easily get removed from the list.
